the walls did NOT come crumblin' crumblin'

Somehow, amidst all the rain we've had, we managed to get our basement walls poured before everything caved in.

i'm a grammar nazi (delusional rant #1)

Don't get me wrong, I rely heavily on creative ...uh... license when I write blog posts and not everything I do is correct.  For some reason I'm in love with ellipses ... and I'm sure I overuse them.

I also write incomplete sentences.  Just so.

However, there are a few things that send me straight to the looney bin ... so to ease my neurosis, I posted those things here.  Punctuation things and grammar things.  (See?  More incomplete sentences.)

The top ten list of things that make Andi cuckoo-baroo bat-shit crazy:

#10.  Who's and Whose.

Whose Line Is It Anyway?  Correct.
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?  Correct.

Who's means WHO IS.  It's a contraction.  (Not the having-a-baby kind.)
Whose is the possessive case of Who.

Little Cindy Lou Who, who's no more than 2, whose gifts were stolen from the Grinch.  Got it?

#9. Their, They're, There.

I don't have the energy to explain this.  There's a big difference betwixt the three.  Please use them correctly.  See below.

the night(mare) stand

I don't know why I didn't just leave this thing the way it was, since everyone seems to be distressing the heck out of all their furniture and making pieces look like if they weren't just run over by a lawn mower, they were missing a heck of an opportunity.

But I started this project long before I really knew what a blog was or that crappy chippy/shabby was the current trend.  I wanted it to be all sparkly and pretty and new.

Now I pretty much just want it to die.

This is another piece I got from my sister.  Thank goodness I've become her own personal dumping ground.  No, really...because how else could I have this much fun?

admiral, there be forms here!

Not much to report, but we do have forms for the walls sitting in my hole.

And we have more rain today.  Yay.  If we get much more, we probably CAN house some of Scotty's whales.

my foot(ings)! my only foot(ings)!

Hey!  The footing dudes showed up!  Wearing just a hint of clothing, tats, and matching scowls.  But they brought the important stuff ... concrete and purdy yellow boots!

**Update...I know you all want close-ups of the half-naked dudes, but I only had my phone with me when I stopped by and could barely see what I was taking pics of anyway, so sorry...that's all you get...**

wet, this

Between the rain and our completely unreliable concrete people, we aren't much further in our quest.

If you missed how the A-Hole came to be, you can see that here.

Here's a quick update.

We had a little rain.  Not enough to stop forward progress.  After much badgering, the concrete slugs showed up to build the forms for the footings.  I guess they decided just bringing the forms was more work than they could handle and left for the day.  And never came back.

Then we got more rain.

The giant hole is wet.

holy giant hole batman!

Well, the day has finally arrived.

Andi has a new hole.  Andi's Hole.

We'll call it A-Hole for short.

We arrived bright and squirrelly to find the guys already there and starting to get their stuff ready to go.

If you've never seen an excavator in operation, let me tell's an art form.  And that's just getting it off the back of the semi trailer.

I took some awesome video on my digital camcorder.  If we knew how to get usable video off of it, that would make it even awesomer.  Perhaps another day.

But watching the excavator was absolutely mesmerizing.  That dude would simultaneously turn the cab one direction, drive the whole rig in another direction, and swing the bucket.  It was like watching a crab skitter across the hot sand with his front claws up in the air balancing its prey precariously over its head.

Only a lot bigger.

Is that thing for real?  It's a Yeti Crab.  Seriously.  I tried to find a crab carrying its prey over its head and I found this.  No way.

a culvert, a pole, an excavator, and some weed

I can't remember if I've mentioned my culvert yet.  Probably not, since a culvert isn't sexy enough to have its own post.

Meet Culvert:

He's hiding in the ditch so the neighbors can't see him.

i shipped my tub

Did you ever ship your tub?  I can't wait to ship my tub!  I'm pretty sure my sister did ship her tub at some point...

 (Thanks Kmart!)

In truth, Kmart didn't ship my tub, Aker by Maxx did.

If you've been hanging on my every word, you saw where I had a fabulous tub picked out for the master bath.  But it turns out that company doesn't have any local dealers in our corner of the galaxy.  We could order them online and they would happily ship our tubs... but where?

Our current home.  Hmmm....we'd have 3 gigantic crates sitting on the driveway, then inside the garage.  And we'd have to somehow get them delivered to the job site.

The job site.  Hmmm...I don't think we want them delivered to an empty lot.

Plus, the delivery time is anywhere from 5-7 weeks.  Not going to deal with that ship.  So, we shipped similar tubs from their "sister" company. have a sister....

Here's what we got folks.  I haven't seen them in person, so hopefully the tubs will be fancy-ship-my-pants.

The master tub/shower is wide and oval-ish like the original one I picked out, so no worries...I can still waste lots of water in it.  And unless my butt gets bigger yet, there's also room for a rubber duck.

80s and back again: a headboard's tale

This headboard hasn't been used in years.  In fact, it hasn't even been seen in years.  I believe it was held captive in the Mines of Moria and it had to fight a cave troll to return to its family.

So, Philly mentions to a guy at work that we have future plans for a home theater in our new basement.
