andi gets famous

There was a big to-do in the 'hood this weekend.

Dead Raccoon.

In The Lake.

NOT THE RACCOON IN THE LAKE...THIS ONE IS MUCH LESS BLOATED A WHOLE LOT CUTER

Our 'hood has a homeowners' association.  I got drafted to be on the board.  It's all Phil's fault, and don't you think otherwise for one second.

One board member dug in his cloven hooves and didn't want to reimburse the person who had it cleared from the lake.

{{{{{{{{REALLY?!?!?!?!?!?!?}}}}}}}

I swear, what's this world coming to?

All I could think was there are far more important things to do with my life than argue over a freaking dead raccoon.

Like write a post about a dead freaking raccoon.

My inner hippie wanted us all to hold hands and sing Kumbaya.

But since I'm not a hippie (and I don't have a personal recording of Kumbaya), I thought I'd make myself famous and introduce my very first YouTube video of the next best thing.

Brief intro...A couple years back...my mom, my daughter, and I sang as a trio at Saturday evening mass.  Mom and Emma are both music majors and have beautiful voices.  I shamelessly begged them to let me play along and they were gracious enough to let me.

They're my two favorite women in the world.

I give you....my very first (rudimentary) YouTube video.

And since Peace was Flowing Like a Dead Raccoon in a Lake in my neighborhood, I decided Peace should Flow like a River instead.

This was recorded in Mom's living room, so be kind.

Mom's on guitar and melody.  I'm on alto harmony.  Emma is on descant.

There are some lovely key changes and some lovelier 3-part harmony.

In the end, Cloven Hooves sang Kumbaya.

And all was well in the 'hood.

  1. "Peace is Flowing" is such a beautiful song to harmonize to. It makes me want to file my long fingernails off and start playing guitar again....but my fingertip callouses are gone. I think it was LOVELY. Now you need to sing another song that is made for three part harmony: "Let's Go Down to the River to Pray". Do it. Go ahead. And I insist on hearing it.

  2. Beautiful song and beautiful voices. The raccoon couldn't be lifted out with a shovel and flung into a grave?

  5. Raccoons suck and nothing will ever convince me to the contrary. You, on the other hand, do not suck. LOVELY singing!!

  6. There is no such thing as a cute raccoon. They are all devils, especially the ones who live in my house above the den and those who kill my chickens.

Lovely voices and lovely long. I have never heard it before.

Ask the member who does not want to pay for the raccoon removal to take over the job of dead animal removal. So, who did remove it and how much does it cost?

    1. Wow! Y'all are so talented! I have to wait until I've had something to drink before I sing. And I was a musical theatre minor.

    2. Thanks Linda....I thought that song was kinda universal?? Guess that shows what I know. Raccoons definitely suck. This raccoon broke the bank at $35.

  7. Well nothing to be ashamed of in those harmonies, you all sound wonderful together. However the song needs to be retitled now to the Dead Raccoon Anthem.

  9. Wow, brought me back to my Guitar Choir days at 4:30 Saturday Mass. Lovely harmony. Haven't heard a descant in an age. I wish there was a visual. As for raccoons...better dead in the lake, than living in my sweltering attic.

    1. Hi La Verne! I don't think we've "met" before! Yes, my mom lead the teen choir at Mass when I was little...by the time I got old enough to join, she'd passed the torch, so I never sang in anything until we started our trio a few years back. We sang during the summer for 3 or 4 years. It was a great experience!

  11. You know you're a power hungry bee-atch, who you playing? Phil was the one who got you elected to the board? Likely story. Here's the vision that's playing in my head (along to some very pretty music, I might add)...You as Bette Midler's business-y character in the movie, Big Business, Sadie, with her big old shoulder pads and even bigger hair, strutting into the club house meeting room ready to bust some heads. "See here now, Cloven Hooves, we WILL reimburse this kind young man for de-raccooning our lake, you will see to it personally. As for our other business, about the Johnsons over on Miller's Lane, they were 2 days late on paying their HOA fee, EVICT THEM immediately!!! And the Smith's, my next door neighbors have NOT given me enough garage eggs this week, assess them a $1000 fine and let them know to have my eggs ready by tomorrow, or else." Cut to finger slash motion over throat. Yup, that has to be extremely accurate. ;)

  12. Hilarious! And crazy! How hard can it be to retrieve a dead animal from the lake? Not brain surgery! But really, who the heck wants to be the one to do it...gross! Unless the dude wanted an outrageous amount...I'd do it for $20.00 HA! I've got to get on the laptop and watch the video. My vintage phone refused to play it :-(

  15. Raccoons are so darn cute but can be so darn destructive at times. It's those little hands that can open just about anything--LOL!
You three sounded just angelic!! No lie! :):)

  20. The next time there's a dead animal in your lake, let it be known I will only charge $10 to remove it. Plus dinner at a five star and a new outfit to wear while I'm there.

You're just full of surprises Andi! Beautiful voice!
