finally got me some trim

...out in the garage no less.

What did you think I meant?

Philly parked it in my stall where my little car likes to sleep at night and sometimes nap during the day. Now, you probably think I returned the favor by taking over his stall.  And you would be absolutely correct.

We moved in 6 months ago and we're finally getting around to trim.

Poor Philly.  He used to be a general contractor, which means 2 1/4" oak casing and 3 1/4" oak baseboard.

First, he didn't understand the concept of painted trim.  Then he really balked at anything larger than standard.  Poor fella didn't realize who he was dealing with.

In the end, fashion sense beat builder-grade to a pulp, and we're installing 3 1/2" casing and 7 1/4" baseboard.

I was a total spaz trying to pick out trim; otherwise, it probably would have been done months ago.  Here's what I finally chose:

The brand is MetrieTM and it's from their Very SquareTM line.

This illustrates the basic idea, but ours won't be quite so fancy.

I'm not a huge fan of quarter round, and Philly's not a huge fan of installing baseboard and quarter round.  This sweet stuff is an inch thick at the base, so guess what?  No additional trim necessary!

I will be painting this stuff all week.  Here's a close-up.  It's a really crappy picture of the trim, but mostly I wanted you to see the roses I bought for myself.  For no reason at all.  Can you believe how sweet I am?

And, of course, Eddie.

In other news, I went shopping at Casa de 'Rents.  Look what I got!

My mom asked what I was going to do with it.  I said, "It will either serve as our coffee table in the family room, or I'll put it at the foot of our bed."

Philly:  "The foot of the bed?!  I'll break my neck!"

Me: "Okay, we'll put it there."

Philly:  {blink}

  1. Haha, I got a similar trunk from my parents years ago. It started out as a coffee table, but was too tall for the new sofa. It's been at the end of the bed for the last 10 years or so. ;) I love painted trim!! My house had oak trim and doors when we moved in, and I have been painting and replacing them for at least the past 8 years!

  3. I love the trunk! If you're like me, it will be a coffee table AND a trunk at the end of the bed! I'm always changing stuff around! For some reason, it helps me to clean house better? It's so funny (or not) how when we built our house 20 years ago, we had no idea about the choices of baseboard etc.. we just let our contractor handle it. If we were to build now.... oh it would be so different. I really like what you picked out Andi.
I changed my blog url again, sorry, I promise I'll stay at this new one. Hope you will follow me there.

  4. Oh, yes, trunk at the foot of the bed. That made me laugh. The trim is very pretty. I need some painting finished up that Favorite Young Man never gets to. Willy Dunne Wooters and I are too helpless to paint.

    Love,

  6. That variety of rose is my favorite and I buy them for myself all the time. Why the hell not, right?
Please post the video of Philly falling over the trunk in the dead of night.
Glad you got some trim, girl. ;)

  7. Love the trim! I have no idea what quarter round means, but I'm glad you don't have to do it!

  8. Is Eddie's collar matching your roses? What a sense of style you have! I think baseboard is very important. The one that was put in the Cottage when I had the tiles done was not the one I chose. I tried to live with it, but finally when the Cottage was flooded last year, I took the opportunity to replace it!

  9. Love the trim choice, and yes quarter round is a pain in the you know what to install. We did it everywhere years ago. That trunk is gorgeous, and so are the roses. Lucky you, that you're so sweet to yourself.

  13. I do math different than most folks, I do it by how it goes around here. So does that mean you'll be parking on Philly's side of the garage for six more months?

  14. I could barely get past your first sentence in this post. You crack me up every time. I wish you would post every day...then I would get to laugh every day. Simple, right?

  15. Wow. Impressive. I've never even thought of base board that big. I think I'm in love. Good thing I live in my daughter's house. Otherwise it would end up as a mini-version of yours. Seriously, twins separated at birth.

  17. I've ALWAYS wanted a cool old trunk, but my mom (the RN) was convinced one of the boys would climb in and suffocate himself. Be sure to keep an eye on Phil. AWESOME!

  19. I love wide, white-painted trim. My trim here is 10" high and door molding is over 5" and very ornate, same for the window trim. Plus, there is a bullseye in the top corned of each window and door, and there are plinth blocks on the bottom of each door. Do I love trim? Yes, ooops, I forgot there is wide crown molding at the ceiling. It was built in 1902. Those Victorians loved trim. And, there are transoms over the doors.
