yes, we have no pianos

We have no...pianos...today.

Yay!  My computer is hooked up!  I'm currently sitting in the basement between the chest freezer and the furnace.  Only the best for us.

The week started off as pure hell.  On Saturday, I learned that my very good friend from the first grade was succumbing to the effects of the cancer she's been fighting for the last 7 years.  We lost her Monday morning.
I love you Jeannie, and I will miss you terribly.

She had been to the new house a few times over the last several months and saw some of the progress.  I'm so sad there will be no new memories here.

But Jeannie had the biggest and quickest smile of anyone I've ever known.  And she wouldn't want us to dwell.  Goodbye Sweet Friend!

*********

We closed on the sale of our old house Wednesday.  In true Phil and Andi fashion, we did the headless chicken dance right up until the last minute to get the rest of our valuables out.  And by "valuables," I mean all the leftover crap that you have no idea what to do with.

BUT...Tuesday was an experience.  The guys showed up to move the piano.  Have you ever seen an 800-pound grand piano moved down a flight of eight stairs?

You're about to.

But first, a quick funny.  When I called the place to set up the move, he asked me three different times what kind of door I had at the bottom of the stairs.

And I explained three different times that IT'S A DECK.
OUTSIDE.
THERE IS NO DOOR.
(Additionally, there is no spoon.)

He finally got it.

It really instilled me with boatloads of confidence.

Now I'm going to do a picture dump, because they pretty much tell the story without a whole lot of commentary.

Remember this guy?

Here he goes.  Sorry for the crappy pics.  I only had my phone with me.

Taking off his dangly bits:

Security blanky (blankie??):

Notice the missing leg at the front?

Phil's head peeking over the top...

Rollin' rollin' rollin'....

At this point, I'd pretty much filled my shorts.

Safety.

In through the garage:

Up on the lift:

The truck swallowed it whole:

I managed to do a little blog visiting today.  I'm trying to get caught up.  I haven't been able to respond to comments, but I've read and enjoyed them all.

So don't ditch me.

Because I'll find you.

So.....I guess we're done with the shirtless pictures now that it is winter...so sad :( I am glad that your piano made it down the stairs in one piece :)

  2. mission accomplished! for the piano. I believe your friend is now pain free and in a better place. I like to say that "she relocated to Heaven"...even if it does not take away the (temporary) emptiness she left behind. Hugs to you.

  4. Oh Andi, I'm sorry about the loss of your friend, but I"m glad she had you in her life! As for the piano, when we were first married and had a piano delivered, up two flights of stairs and into a sunken living room area, the movers told us NOT to call them when we moved out! Glad yours is safe now!

I can imagine how stressful moving the piano. I try to NOT be home when things like that happen at my house. I can't take it.
So cool that you got pics of the move. Whew!!! Glad that's over :-)

  7. Oh Andi, I am so sorry for you losing such a dear friend. My prayers for her family too! Glad your piano is in its new home. I am thinking of the small electric pianos that you can carry under your arm...well almost. Have you ever played on one of them? Some of them even feel like real piano keys!

  8. I'm very sorry about your friend. The piano is pretty effing amazing. Of course, it leads to my pissed off piano story. When I got divorced and moved out of The Estate, of course I took my share of the furniture and took my piano. One of X's friends kept saying to me, Jaaaaane! You're even taking the piano? I said, Of course. It's my piano. My mother gave it to me. I played that piano when I was growing up. The next time I would see her, she would again exclaim about me taking MY fucking piano. If she hadn't been 7 inches taller than me and outweighed me by more than 100 pounds, I would have bitch slapped her. That was more than four years ago, and it still pisses me off.

    Love,
    Janie

  12. I got your email, just hadn't time to respond yet. That is fine! So sorry about your friend, that is terribly sad. :( You need to fill me in on your piano? Are you the one that plays? I started to bite my nails over the pictures of the piano going down those steps, and I don't even bite my nails normally! LOL! Glad it arrived safely. Enjoy that new home!

  17. Why did Carrie get an email and I didn't?

In my early years, I had many pianos brought in and taken out. One was SO LARGE that we had to put steel support posts under the floor in the basement. Yep.

I lost a friend about 4 years ago, and I STILL have the ribbon she gave me, hanging on the visor in the car where she put it. I miss her. You will too when you have fewer necessary jobs to do right now.

  18. Andi, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, it's always hard even when we know it will happen.

Seeing the piano pics made me think of one of my favourite songs from when I was a kid http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z7Bvd33V9dQ Hope you get a laugh :)

  19. So sad to hear about your friend, Andi. I think she must have been your guardian angel when that beast was coming down the steps! Very nerve wracking photos...
I hope you will have memories of her in your new house...if she's anything like you she'll be knocking pictures off the walls for fun. She'll be with you. :)

  21. Oh Andi... I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Jeannie. 7 years is a long time to fight. She must have been very strong and brave. She was lucky to have you as a friend. She's at peace now, and watching over you.

I'm not sure I could have taken watching that piano come down those stairs in person. Talk about nerve racking. Yowza!

  22. I will never ditch you. Even if I'm chronically late to the party. I am so sorry about your friend, she sounds marvelous. And I have a feeling any friend of yours would be just another funny-awesome lady that I'd probably stalk. Love to you & congrats on the closing and awesome piano move. My heart was in my throat the entire time. xoxo Mar
