remember the doors?

No, not the "People Are Strange" Doors.

These doors.

We're finally getting around to hanging the doors.  Thankfully I'd only stained 2 of the 11 doors, because after bringing them in the house and seeing them with my floors,  they look like Carrie-on-prom-night red.

Well, maybe not quite that bad.  Perhaps more like Katie Scarlett O'Hara.

Probably more like Dorothy's hair:

But they make me feel more like Carrie.

The color seemed okay when we picked it out and lined it up with our floor sample.  Heck, the gal who helped us is an actual interior designer, whereas I only play one on TV.

I hate the color of the doors with my floor and it will not do.  Those 2 doors I've already finished?  Banished to the basement.

After testing another 3,425 stain colors, I finally decided on Kona.

I like it.  Here's a side-by-side.  The good one is the one that's actually hanging.  The red one is the red one.  Please don't confuse them or I'll cry.

The door below is the one I've been dying to hang.  It goes to the basement.  I was really sick of opening and closing the Eddie-gate.

Sometimes when you insist on having a dangly hall light fixture rather than something flush to the ceiling, you're just an idiot.

Fail.

Oh well, people are strange.

As a side note, Eddie looks good in red, but he's tired of winter.

  1. You can hardly tell Eddie is under that coat! I am glad you only finished 2 of the doors and not all of them! (I would have done all of them before thinking to set one up to see how it looks with the floor!!) The other color looks much, MUCH better!!!

  2. I love both of your door colors, but don't listen to me as I am strange....Eddie does look stunning in red! P.S....not PMS like Magali has, just P.S. you are really good at staining!

  3. I can see--red and brown. I prefer brown, as well. The red? Too 1940s-ish mahogany-ish.

  4. Funny how much I loved The Doors when I was an angst-filled teenager but they seem so depressing now. Still love the songs, though, because of all the memories that go with them...and Simon & Garfunkel, Moody Blues, Jimi Hendricks, The Beatles...
And I am strange, I guess, because I could live with either set of doors. But the brown ones match more cohesively, shall we say. ;)
Now, the light fixture...OMG!! I am still giggling!! That just seems like something I would do--LOL!
Eddie does look good in red. Spring will be here. I guarantee it. ;)

  5. Doesn't Elizabeth Arden have a red door? Oops, irrelevant! Love the hanging door (and light fixture despite its intrusive dangle)

  7. Well, on the 'bright' side....you only stained 2. But the light? Now that's just sad. Cuz I love it. Hopefully you'll be able to use it somewhere else. Now to the good stuff....I clicked back to the staining the door post....the post about staining the doors..... and was pleased to get to hear that Black Betty song again! Then I was treated to The Doors! Loved the music, but it was Val Kilmer that sold me on them. Yummy. Thanks. Dona

  9. I agree, Kona. And I do remember the helll the doors have put your through since the beginning, so now that you've got one stained do you feel better about them? And lastly, did you cut the door down or move the light fixture?

  10. I like the red door, it's pretty...but definitely not with your floors! I absolutely LOVE the light fixture!! Now I want to go change all of mine to that one. :)

  11. How old am I that I couldn't wait to run over and check out the doors? Where's my AARP card? LOVE the color!

  12. I really thought Scarlett was so pretty in red... until I saw Eddie... Scarlett means nothing to me now! The doors do look better in brown than in red!

  13. Loving the doors! After all that trouble they gave you, they look beautiful. They look old, in a good way. As in, they don't look like you picked them up at home depot last weekend. They look vintage. Yes, that's the word I'm looking for. LOVE them and the light fixture...and Eddie. :)

  15. I LOVE that song. I LOVE the ceiling light. LOVE IT. Its placement? Not so much. The RED DOOR.............yep. Didn't take me long to figure out which one it was. Baaaaad door. Bad.

And your furchild in your jacket. I showed it to Joe without telling him that what he was seeing was the fur around your hood. He said "DANG, that's a fat dog!" Yeah. He's not too bright.

  16. Much better stain, not all interior designers know what they're on about, I love the light fixture can it be moved?

  17. That red-stained door is glaringly ugly in that setting. At least you did not get them all stained. You know you have to move that outlet for the light fixture or get a different fixture, don't you? Someone, eventually will bang the door into it...sigh.

  18. I like the light fixture. It's contemporary. Is it touching the top of a door? I like the different stain on the door that I believe to be hanging.

    Love,
    Janie

  19. I have a friend with a very intricate cutout in her bathroom door for where it has to swing past the edge of the toilet. You could totally do that with your door around that light fixture also.

  20. oh no, I just read the comment above mine from Cheryl where she has a friend with a door that they had to cut out a space for the toilet and I can't think of anything else. Urmmmm...did they glue the bit they had to cut out of the door onto the frame? I mean, I am a gal who likes to do her business in PRIVATE! I don't want some chunk cut out of the door where people can peep on me. I mean, because of course that's what everyone in my household wants to do, peep at me while I'm taking care of business. GOSH!!! I can't take it.

  21. I'd be LMAO about your light fixture problem, but I haven't put my doors back on yet and now I'm scared. Definitely like the non-red doors better. Are you going to sand those other ones down or just leave them in the basement?

  22. Love the kona door! And that light fixture is gorgeous! Definitely worth the trouble...
