andi's pantry project {part 2}

First of all, if you're following me through your Blogger dashboard, you may need to go back and add me again. I recently switched to delusionsofingenuity.com (instead of blogspot.com) and I noticed I didn't show up in my feed anymore and had to re-add myself.

Of course, if you are following me that way, you're probably not seeing this post anyway.

Now that we have that taken care of that bit of nonsense...

Did you catch Part 1? No? Go check it out right now, you sillies. Andi's Panties are on fire!

Here's where we left off. This post is being brought to you by the letter L.

I never did an informative post on how we built our kitchen cabinets. Perhaps someday I'll try to go back and do that. The short of it is we purchased RTA (ready-to-assemble) cabinets from cabinetjoint.com. They are 100% made in the U.S.A. with all domestic wood. They come in pieces, and my resident carpenter built them all down in our basement.

We did the same for our pantry, except we ordered them with bare, ready-to-paint wood. And we saved a bunch of dollars.

Here's a small pile of them, painted and assembled. And blurry as all get-out.

Phil primed them, then used Benjamin Moore Advance in white, and Behr Premium Plus tinted to match the Glidden color we like to call Candy Apple. Actually, Glidden calls it Candy Apple, and we're just playing along.

And they went into the Pantry, two and two, of all cabinets, wherein they shall live.

All the base cabinets made it into the Pantry-ark. Later they will be fruitful and multiply. But you don't get to watch that part.

But for now, if you're interested in the layout:

Remember the floor I said we weren't using? Here's why:

It was a great-looking laminate floor, but it just looked a little muddy next to the bright red/white cabinets. So we went with good old-fashioned vinyl stick tiles from Menards. Blurry-as-all-get-out stick tiles.

Philly had to cut a piece of luan to fit in order to raise the height of the floor:

And look who was left after he was finished cutting!

Nessie! I'm totally keeping her. There's only one of her so she can't go into the Pantry-ark.

Phil primed the luan and started putting the tiles down!

So much brighter! And cheaper! Just the opposite of me!

Adding quarter round:

Let us pause for a moment to admire the magical healing powers of spackle, caulk, and more paint:

And now it's all trimmed out. Look! Our first guests have arrived! Eddie's meatloaf has joined the party!

Have you thought about what the theme might be? No one has guessed it yet, but there have been some great attempts...

I think my favorite was a bordello.

Stay tuned...

  1. You amaze me with your projects, I wish my husband was that handy. He actually is pretty handy, just finding time to get him to do stuff to where I am not 'nagging' him is the key! lol! Love that floor!

  2. Only you would have the word "panties" in your title. You make me happy. You're in my blogroll. Your photos are hardly blurry at all. Quit fussing. I love your pantry. It's a serious pantry, not a mere closet. It reminds me a little bit of my aunt's pantry. She lived in an old house. They had a pantry that I think would have been referred to as a butler's pantry. Do you buttle? I don't remember my aunt keeping anything in her fabulous pantry. I don't have a pantry in my current house, but considering I live here alone and don't entertain, I think I can live with the nice kitchen cabinets I have. The china cabinet is a big help, too. I actually keep the china in it, along with odds and ends, including a gorgeous cake plate on which I used to place gorgeous cakes when I still baked. I seldom bake now, but I did make Blueberry Crumb Saturday night, the recipe for which I got from Rita about six months ago. It took a little while for me to muster the strength to make the blueberry stuff, which is delicious. My son is coming over soon to try it. I gave some to Willy Dunne Wooters last night: Blueberry Crumb, that is. What did you think I gave him? You have such a dirty mind. Your theme must be THINGS YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE WEARING PANTIES. I have no idea what your theme is. The silver is in the china cabinet, too, just in case any burglars are reading. But Franklin is here to bark at them. Then he'll wag his tail and ask the big bad guys to pet him.

    Love,
    Janie

  3. I don't know the theme yet, but I feel like I want to park my '57 chevy in there, two by two of course so they multiply and we can retire.

  4. Oh, Janie Junebug is a crack-up! Bliss had a great comment too! I'm still stuck on the 'theme'. Food! That's what a pantry is all about! Malt-shop food! Diner food! 50's food! FOOD! Dona

    Yeah....I'm dieting.....

  5. Dagnabit! I was going to guess "1950's Chevrolet Showroom" but Bliss beat me to it.
I'm looking forward to the post when you transform Nessie into lawn art.

  6. That pantry is way too classy for the caliber of stuff I keep in ours. I'd have to buy name brand chips and cereal ad no jarred sauce. Maybe more expensive chocolate too! This theme suspense is too much!!!

    1. Just do what I do; cheat. I but stuff and put in nice jars, like Mason, and pretty containers. I think the theme here is 50s drug store with soda fountain. Can't wait yo see the soda fountain.

    1. Everyone is getting closer, but it's more specific than that. I honestly can't think of a clue that wouldn't be a dead giveaway, so I'm gonna keep it under my hat. :)

  8. This little room is looking fab! I call those "lick and stick"! Ha Ha No I don't really lick them but it is fun to see people's faces when they are trying to figure out what I am talking about!

    2. It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland for some reason. Red queen. Through the Looking Glass and all that. Playing on a huge chess board.

    3. I thought of that, too. "Off with her head!" LOL

  10. I was thinking of the old malt shops from the 50s, too.
I LOVE the pops of red, of course. :)

  11. Yep, looks like an old soda shop or a Steak and Shake... I hope my dogs don't read your post or they'll want fancy meat loaf in a can, too. Tell Eddie to keep this stuff on the down low, will ya?

  12. I see you've ruled out the theme I had thought of and not dared to tell (but someone is more courageous than me), so maybe an Alice visiting the Queen of Heart theme?

  13. Hmmm...you did once own a coca cola shower curtain?? Love where this is going!!

  14. I have NO idea what you are up to. Can't get over your drunk dog!

  16. Look forward to the upcoming finishing touches. Looks like a "Mel's Diner" theme to me. :-) Used to work at Universal Studios and saw this look every day. *grin*

  17. it surely helps having a resident carpenter in the house...others (like me) are lucky enough to have a resident drummer in the house...they both make noises, I guess. The "Steak N Shake" vibe looks good. Now I am craving a burger and fries...

  18. I'm asking my husband to open up our kitchen wall, put in a support beam (oh, yeah, he's happy already) with a pocket door. This would involve stealing a corner of his garage but what the hell, we only keep one car in a 2-car garage anyway. He's quick to point out that you already had a closet to begin with and yours is only 60" X 66" whereas my plans are in the 80" range. Tsk tsk. Details, details.
